Deformation Studies on Dimension and Structure for Fifteen Point Three.

Stedelijk Museum

Sonic Acts Amsterdam, 2019

description:

Deformation Studies on Dimension and Structure for Fifteen Point Three is a mediation between the potential of localisation through audio within the Pentacle system, the programming of each modulations of sound according to this capacity, and the acoustic resonances of the Stedelijk Museum. This gradual intervention, whose changes are indeterminately structured, is thought of as an unfolding of an organisation rather than a composition with defined parts. There is no imposition of a specific form, location or movement to pre-recorded audio but the emergence of sonorous events which are specific and non-repeatable

This piece was co-commissioned by Sonic Acts and A4 as part of Re-Imagine Europe, and co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union and developed during a residency at STEIM.

Study on Asymmetric Zonality.

Fondazione Antonio Ratti

Como 2018

description:

Once amplification of standing waves and room modes occur, the sonorous capacity of a resonant body whose physical characteristics constitute the actual audible which had remained uniquely potential, unearth a manifold of hearable intersections among and in between internal and external acoustics of the edifice. Such interdependent audible relations in which a defined space, its shape, the objects populating it and its surroundings become sonically expressive, compose an asymmetric manifestation which projects an audible trajectory with no particular origin and that does not end up at a particular place, but rather, fragment listening by dissolving inside, outside, around, above and close, into a listening which is co-constituted by differences of degree and not of quality. In this sense, sound opens space to a vibrational process of overlapping thresholds of aural perception which are gradually actualized through sonorous intervention. Such reciprocal exchange emerges from a connection where audible actualities and indeterminate sonorous process converge in the apparent opposition of inside and outside, proximity and distance.

Real-time analysis of the temporal differences present in eight devices and its respective performers were streaming and refreshing Cashmere Radio’s website in real-time, became the spectral component of a gradual transition, in which short attack (0ms) and decay (>10ms) impulses of randomly changing frequencies, reached a swarm like sonic organization, which derived from the delayed stream of the original pulses at every refreshing fed back into resampling tabs of indeterminately assigned lengths which evolved in a generative manner. In relation to this, the exercise was conducted as an  in which the lagging differences caused by the streaming became the variable through which a specific duration was not imposed onto sonic matter in the form of a composition, but rather each of the eight possible temporal differences became the factor by which a sonic organization was actualized.

Cloud- like variations applied to a multichannel distribution of suspended speakers, in strict relation to the spatial conditions of the gallery and executed as a performative intervention and generative installation, which continued to evolve during the 2 week duration of the exhibition. This intervention was spatially accentuated by the position of a black metallic structure, divided in two sixty degrees angled frames facing each, and from which each of the speakers were suspended.
